On Monday, students participated in a workshop with the Shakespeare in the Schools program that engaged them in representing conflicts dramatically. Each student was presented with a line or scenario from the play we watched and then was asked to act out in tableau what was occurring. This was a super activity for us as part of our "Exploring Conflicts" unit; it pushed students to pay attention to the relationships between characters and the way that each character goes about getting what he or she wants.
We took a week off of vocabulary work and concentrated this week on pushing forward with our reading: Langston Hughes' "Thank you, Ma'm" and Gary Paulsen's "Hatchet."
