Continued vocabulary work and focused work on figures of speech...
Students worked with ideas from their own journal writing, and using figures of speech, transformed their personal experiences of reality into works of poetry. We paid particular attention to how similes and metaphors allow us as artists to buffer the personal into language that can be more public and how these figures of speech allow us as readers to grasp a precise and particular sense of the reality that is being portrayed.
In the coming week: we will begin work on a longer reading assignment and continue our writing work with short analytical responses.
