Course Overview
Communication Arts II is a year-long required English course, completed in either the sophomore or junior year, which is divided into two semesters and is designed to provide students with continued support in the development of the literacy skills necessary to complete the English requirements at SGCHS.
Throughout the course, students will continue to improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through a variety of projects that study multiple genres: poetry, short stories, personal narratives, political speeches, critical essays, and novels. Directed vocabulary and grammar enrichment will support students' overall literacy development.
Class Requirements
Students will be expected to:
-Read assigned materials
-Maintain a notebook or binder
-Complete three unit tests
-Complete vocabulary and grammar quizzes
-Complete written homework assignments
-Prepare and deliver one oral presentation
-Engage in class activities and discussions
-Follow class procedures and school code of conduct
Grading
Grades for the course will be based on the following criteria:
Unit tests (3) 30%
Quizzes 20%
Homework 15%
Oral presentation 15%
Notebook 10%
Class participation 10%
